PROMO Just as guitarist/bassist Dirk Schilling commutes between Carinthia, Cologne, Vienna, and Berlin, his music has also oscillated between many places for years: minimal jazz, electronic, post-rock, and ambient, but also chanson, theater, and film music. Always searching for new sounds, combinations of sound and noise, always in the experimental setup of the playful sound laboratory. After Schilling's time with his electric guitar solo concert in three cycles, he founded the DIRK SCHILLING DUO as an expression of his desire not to be alone, always in exchange with at least one other person and musician, knowing that only in this real-time communication can true exchange, surprise, and new experiences lie. Depending on the phase, the DUO partners change and repeatedly explore Schilling's sound world of bass, guitar, instant loops, and abstract minimal sound. Most recently, it was Carinthian accordionist Thomas Nečemer, before that, Cologne-based ambient composer and drummer Markus Junker. Despite these changing lineups, the DUO's sound always seems to remain astonishingly homogeneous, minimal, and magically groovy. Thus, the music created by the Dirk Schilling DUO is always characterized by the eternal interplay of life: fast and slow, loud and quiet, chaos and order. An evening dedicated to the deeply human and an ode to the high art of musical exchange between two individuals! BIO Dirk Schilling came to Cologne from his northern German hometown of Lübeck to study, where he spent many years moving between electronic music, jazz, and rock. Filmpalast, Motorsheep, Bandaloop, Hoelderlin, and Humming Lights are just a few of his stops. He's currently on tour with "Bachmann Reloaded," a song recital featuring Ingeborg Bachmann's most beautiful poems, performed by Susanne Kubelka and the Dirk Schilling DUO. When combined with his current compositions for theater, film, and dance, he emerges as a vibrant, artistic free spirit par excellence.
